Let out your inner-geek. Or Ferris Bueller.

February 19th, 2009

There are few movie characters quite as enviable as Ferris Bueller. He was a double threat: Cool enough to skip school and drive a Ferrari around town, but smart enough to create tech-savvy boobie traps that kept him from getting in trouble for it.

We never got to see exactly how he put together that open-the-door-and-hear-my-sick-voice thing, but now with Haywired, a book by electrical engineer Mike Rigsby, gadget lovers can learn how to create that same room alarm. The book also features other so-nerdy-they’re-cool devices, like moving eyeball paintings, recordable greeting cards, and no-battery flashlights.

The comprehensive book comes with a list of tools and parts, as well as step-by-step photo instructions on how to build everything. So, basically, there’s little chance that you’ll mess it up.

And while you might not be able to “borrow” a friend’s Ferrari, Haywired gets you one step closer to being like Ferris. If only they had a machine to create your own personal "Oh Yeah" life soundtrack.
